Join us in this effort to build a community of local ocean users and future managers of our shoreline and marine environment.

Along with Your knowledge of the islands that we call home we are learning how to conduct citizen surveys, reef monitoring and to connect the similar conservation approaches that are already implemented in Hawai’i.

Our Efforts

  • Water Monitoring

We conduct water monitoring in partnership with several organizations on Kauai, including the Department of Water, Surfriders Kaua’i, Nature Conservancy, Nat’l Botanical Gardens and several stream-based partners who monitor our freshwater. Through these partnerships, we are able to gain a better understanding of the health of our watersheds and the impact they have on our beloved coral reefs.

This is why our logo incorporates the Ahupua'a, or watershed, into an overall depiction of the coral reef ecosystem. It reminds us that conservation efforts must extend beyond just the ocean and into the interconnected systems that support it.

  • Sustainable Aquaculture and Fishing

Restoration and Kaua’i Sea Farm, Alekoko Pond are great community efforts for sustainable aquaculture and going back to indigenous practices for regaining the balance between Land and Sea. Let us eat and share what we grow instead of importing food for the community. We support and learn from local fishermen who fish “Pono”

FOR ALL AGES AND ABILITIES:Together we will discover new ways to visualize concepts like climate , ocean acidification, pollution, habitat loss, food web disruption, and underwater noise using an interdisciplinary approach that includes science, art, writing, and speaking. But mostly being aware and“Diving In!” and using the ocean as a “Living Classroom”
